Custom cabinets in Westminster, sized for the kitchen you have.

Cabinets911 plans, builds and installs custom cabinets in Westminster, CO. The city's housing runs heavily to compact kitchens: ranches and split-levels from its 1960s and 1970s growth, plus newer townhomes and condos near Downtown Westminster. So the planning here starts with one question. Where does everything go?

Westminster grew fast. City figures put the population at 19,512 in 1970 and 50,211 in 1980, and the pace prompted a temporary building moratorium in 1977 and a growth management program in 1978. A large share of today's houses date from that stretch. Their kitchens were drawn for a shorter list of appliances. Today's counters hold an air fryer, a coffee setup and a mixer, and the original cabinets never planned for any of them.

Small-kitchen storage that adds real capacity

In a 1970s Westminster kitchen there's rarely a spare wall for more cabinets. Every wall already has a job. So the gains come from using the cabinet volume you have better, and from claiming the dead space above and between.

Three moves do most of the work. Take the uppers to the ceiling and use the top row for things you reach twice a year. Replace door-and-shelf base cabinets with drawers. Turn the blind corner into something you can actually reach. Our kitchen cabinet planning starts with an inventory of what lives on your counters now, because that's exactly what the new storage has to absorb.

  • Ceiling-height uppers with a short stacked top tier
  • Deep drawers in place of base cabinets with one shelf
  • A shallow pantry cabinet, about a foot deep, on a hall or dining wall
  • Vertical tray dividers beside the range
  • An appliance garage so the counter clears without exiling the toaster

Townhomes and condos near Downtown Westminster

Downtown Westminster is being built on the old Westminster Mall site at U.S. 36 and Sheridan Boulevard. The city bought the mall property between 2009 and 2011, demolished it, and has since added apartment buildings, a hotel and retail. Attached homes in and around developments like this tend to have galley or single-wall kitchens that open straight into the living room.

When the kitchen is part of the living room

One wall of cabinets in full view of the sofa is furniture, not just storage. Panel the refrigerator if the budget allows. Hide small appliances behind doors. Pick a finish you'll be happy looking at every evening. Open shelving photographs well and collects grease fast in a room with no wall between the range and the couch.

HOA rules shape the schedule

Attached homes come with rules. Many associations limit work hours, require contractor approval, or control where a trailer or dumpster can sit. Read your declarations and tell us what they say. We'll plan delivery, demolition and haul-away to fit, and protect shared stairwells and elevators where a building has them.

Cabinet replacement in Federal Heights and Harris Park

Federal Heights, a small city incorporated in 1940, has several manufactured home communities alongside its houses and apartments. Cabinet replacement in a manufactured home is its own job. Interior walls can be framed lighter and skinned with thinner panels than a site-built house, and a stock upper loaded with dishes can pull loose from a wall like that. We find the framing, add backing where it's missing, and sometimes choose lighter cabinet construction on purpose.

Westminster's first settlers farmed in what is now Harris Park, near 72nd Avenue and Bradburn Boulevard. C.J. Harris began selling land there to fruit growers in the 1880s, and the Bowles House, now on the National Register, still stands nearby. Houses in that area span many decades, some with additions stitched on later. Where an addition meets the original house, floors and ceilings rarely line up. A cabinet run that crosses that seam needs scribing at both ends, and our installation work starts from a level line, never an assumption.

Routing

Where a Westminster project should start

  1. 01

IfYour 1970s kitchen is out of counter space

ThenStart with drawers and ceiling-height uppers before adding any new cabinets.

  2. 02

IfYou own a townhome or condo

ThenGet the HOA's rules on work hours and contractor approval in writing first.

  3. 03

IfYou live in a manufactured home

ThenHave the wall framing located before choosing cabinets. Wall strength sets the spec.

  4. 04

IfYour older Harris Park house has an addition

ThenPlan the cabinet run so it doesn't straddle the seam between old and new.

Westminster cabinet questions

CallerHow do I get more storage in a small Westminster kitchen without a full remodel?

Cabinets911

Swap base cabinets with doors for drawer bases, add a short stacked row above the existing uppers if the boxes are sound, and convert the blind corner. A shallow pantry cabinet on a nearby hall or dining wall often holds more than people expect. None of that requires moving plumbing, which keeps the scope contained.

CallerCan you work in my condo or townhome building?

Cabinets911

Yes, within the rules your association sets. Send us the work-hour limits, any contractor insurance requirements and notes on parking or elevator use. We plan the delivery and the install days around them, and we'll tell you up front if a rule changes how the job has to be phased.

CallerIs it worth replacing cabinets in a manufactured home?

Cabinets911

It can be, if the walls can carry the new cabinets. We check the framing first. In some homes the right answer is a lighter-weight upper, or backing added inside the wall before anything is hung. If the floor under the sink is soft, that gets fixed before new cabinets go in.

CallerAre ceiling-height uppers worth it in a small kitchen?

Cabinets911

Usually. Standard uppers leave a gap above them that collects dust and holds nothing. Taking the cabinets up, or stacking a short row on top, gives you shelf space for seasonal items and closes the dust shelf. Keep a step stool nearby. Our cabinet guide covers heights and crown options, and once you know what belongs up there, send us a quote request.
